TOPIC     Elevating Special Education Outcomes by Activating Special Education Leadership: Focus on Behavior

PRESENTERS     Julie Camerata, Special Education Cooperative

WHEN     Thursday, June 21st, 2018 at 1:00-3:00 PM

WHERE    Workshop location details will be sent via email after registration

DETAILS    Special Education is often looked at through a purely operational lens: Have we completed student evaluations in a timely fashion? Did all documents get signed on the right line by the right person?
It's time to move past these compliance oriented questions and elevate practices that get to the true spirit of IDEA:  Are students with disabilities accessing the curriculum in ways that drive outcomes?

For a school to embrace this shift, the work must be driven by school leaders. This session will:

  • Review how school-wide understanding of the science of behavior positively impacts all students' success.
  • Outline the process for practical behavior analysis, leading to function-based Positive Behavior Support plans for students demonstrating a pattern of challenging behavior.

AUDIENCE    This series is intended to break down the "silos" that often exist around special education. Schools are strongly encouraged to send teams that include general education leaders as well as special education staff.

FOLLOW-UP CONSULTING    Schools that send both a general education leader and a special education staff member will be eligible for up to four hours of follow-up coaching on behavior support during the summer.

ALTERNATE DATE OPTION    This same session will also be offered on Thursday, June 7th at 8:30 am. Please follow this link if you would prefer to attend the alternate date. The same information will be presented at both session dates.
