About the Program
The ACP is available to select Founding Groups that FOCUS chooses based (in part) on their ability to successfully complete the WFF Phase I Pre-Authorization Grant. During the course of the ACP, founding groups officially petition the DC PCSB for charter approval. 83% of all successful charter petitioners participated in the FOCUS Application Consulting Program. 77% of all FOCUS ACP groups have had their charters approved.

About the Program
Since the program’s inception in 2004, 97% of all successful charter petitioners took part in the FOCUS Application Preparation Program. During the APP, Founding Groups begin to design their public charter school according to the terms set forth by the DC Public Charter School Board’s (PCSB) Application Guidelines. FOCUS provides the following support and assistance during the Application Preparation Program:
- One copy of the FOCUS Guide to Starting a Public Charter School in the District of Columbia.
- Spaces at each of the School Design Workshops.
- Basic assistance to complete the Walton Family Foundation grant application if applicable.
The full series of School Design Workshops will take place in the fall of 2011. Founding Groups who register for the Application Preparation Program will be able to attend workshops on the following topics:

Enrollment Criteria
Any founding group may participate in the Application Preparation Program.
Cost
The cost per founding group is $575 for the fall workshop series for up to 3 people to attend each workshop. Payment is due prior to the first workshop.

Charter School Startup Programs & FOCUS Workshops
FOCUS Charter School Design and Development Program
Beginning in 2004, FOCUS became a one-stop training and support center for individuals and organizations seeking to start new charter schools in the District of Columbia. The FOCUS School Design and Development (SD & D) program provides aspiring charter school leaders with the tools and guidance necessary for creating successful charter school applications and for opening outstanding schools.
